Tourist Guide to Maldives

Things That Tourists to the Maldives Should Know

The Maldives are an island nation located in the Indian Ocean, and tourism is very important there. In fact, it is the country's biggest earner, and boasts eighty-seven tourist resorts at last count. It is a friendly and beautiful place, and it is no wonder that so many people come there for vacation.

The nearly twelve hundred islands that make up this nation are truly tiny versions of paradise, with azure waters, lush green vegetation, and golden-white sand. Anyone vacationing there should consider him or herself truly lucky.

However, tourists who are planning their visit to the Maldives should known a bit about the area before they go. Here are a few things that should be kept in mind.

When traveling to the Maldives, you do not need a visa prior to arriving. All tourists to the country receive a 30-day visa. You do need your passport, of course. You also do not need any special vaccinations before you are allowed to enter the country.

When it comes to electrical devices, you will want to bring an adapter to ensure they work. Most of the hotels provide hairdryers, irons, and other electronic items, so you would only have to worry about adapters for your other electronics (battery chargers for cameras, cell phones, etc.).

Since most of the hotels and resorts have their own desalinization plants, you don't have to worry about drinking the water. You can also find plenty of bottled water at the shops if you prefer.

There are some restrictions on the Maldives when it comes to alcohol. It is prohibited in the capital Male, as well as on other islands where there are no hotels or resorts. But it is allowed in the tourist locations.

While most of the shops on the islands accept credit cards, such as Visa, MasterCard, and debit cards, they can't provide you with cash. You can find a bank on the Maldives that will issue cash, but the withdrawals are limited. It is better to have cash or travelers checks on hand rather than relying on getting cash on the islands.

While the likelihood of needing one is quite limited, it is a great peace of mind for tourists to know that there are great medical facilities (as well as dental clinics and pharmacies) on the islands. In fact, the resorts all have well equipped clinics to deal with any minor problems a person could have.

The Maldives Islands are a fun and beautiful places to visit, and they are very accommodating to travelers. Those looking for a true island getaway in paradise will absolutely love everything the islands have to offer.
