Alaska’s coastline is known for its momentous fjords and floating glaciers, and you can get a better view of these natural features by going on a kayak tour. Sitka Sound and Prince William Sound are among the best places for kayaking. You can also go on a kayaking adventure along the Eagle or Upper Chatanika river.

Hunting

Alaska is a prime destination for moose, caribou and black bear hunting. You can also bring a waterfowl hunting backpack along to hunt for ducks, geese and other birds that you may find near Alaska’s waterways. Some of the state’s best spots for hunting include the Chugach Mountains, Kenai Peninsula and Kodiak Island. It’s important to get any necessary licenses and learn the appropriate hunting seasons for certain animals so that you won’t violate any laws. Make sure that you take a weather proof hunting backpack and correct attire.

Ice Fishing

During Alaska’s cold and long fall and winter seasons, you can find many frozen areas around the state to go ice fishing. You can cut your own hole into a frozen lake or pond to try to catch different types of fish that are swimming in the water beneath the icy surface. Lake Louise and Byers Lake along with many waterways around the city of Fairbanks are often great places for ice fishing. You may even want to hire an ice fishing expert to tag along for the adventure so that you can remain as safe as possible.

Dog Sledding

You can feel as though you’re racing in the Iditarod when you take a ride on a sled that’s pulled by trained dogs. Dog sledding tours can be found around Fairbanks, or you could also choose to go on a dog sledding adventure on the Taku Glacier. The Punch Bowl Glacier is another great spot for dog sledding and can be reached by helicopter.

You can fulfill your wanderlust and have the time of your life by partaking in any of these outdoor adventure activities in Alaska. These exciting activities offer something special for everyone.
