Tips for planning your summer vacation

With your chosen destination in mind, start planning your summer vacation now.

The sun is here, the school is over, and the people with a job are looking to take a break and enjoy the nice weather somewhere else. It's definitely time for a vacation! That's why we've prepared this guide to help you with planning your summer vacation. Whether you're just about to start planning, or you're well into your planning process and you're only interested in certain details, we've got you covered!

Planning your summer vacation in terms of transportation

Once you choose the destination that fits both your needs and your budget, it's time to organize your transportation.

Search for flights incognito

When you start searching for flights on the internet, it's a good idea to do that in an incognito window. That is a special mode of browsing that is available on all modern browsers. Basically, incognito mode doesn't store your cookies. This can be important because a lot of sites keep track of your data. If you've already searched for flights on their site before, sometimes, they will increase the price the next time you visit. However, if you do that in an incognito window, they won't store your data and you will get the same (lower) price.

Fly as early in the morning as possible

Another useful thing to do is to fly as early in the morning as you can. Flights often get cancelled, but if the cancelled flight was early in the morning, there's a good chance that you won't lose the entire day while waiting for the next flight. What's more, airports are generally less busy in the morning hours. And bad weather is generally less likely to occur then. If you have decided to catch an early flight, but you don't think you'll be able to wake up on time, you can spend the night at the airport hotel.

Apart from traveling in the morning, if you want to book the cheapest flights, it's a good idea to avoid traveling on Fridays and Sundays. That's because people usually tend to travel during the weekend, so the prices are higher then.

Be careful when flying with layovers

While flying with layovers will save you some money and is generally recommended, make sure that your layovers operate from the same terminal. Sometimes, flights are on the same airline, but the terminals are not so close. If you have to change terminals, there's a chance that you'll miss your layover.

As part of your planning of flights, be mindful of your layovers being on the same
terminal,
or at least have enough time between the flights to get there comfortably.

So, think ahead! Planning long term travel is never easy, but with a little careful preparation, it is far from impossible.

Planning your summer vacation in terms of lodging

Now it's time to find the right lodging. Problems with lodging can ruin an otherwise excellently planned vacation, so be careful!

Waiting before booking a room might save you some money

Unlike flights, lodgings are not the cheapest in the morning. Hotels usually have lots of vacancies. This means that room prices are actually highest in the morning. As the day goes on, many hotels will still have lots of rooms to rent. That's why it makes sense for them to rent them out at lower prices.

Getting a good lodging and room price also takes some preparation
and knowing things.

On the other hand, if money is not an issue and you really want to book a room in a certain hotel, then you should definitely try to book it as soon as possible. That way, you'll be certain that you'll get to spend the vacation in your favorite hotel.

Staying at a hostel is another way to save money

One of the better tips for frugal travelers is to stay at a hostel. Even if you don't want to share a room with strangers, you can still find a hostel that offers rooms with one bed only. Hostels are not only cheap, but they offer some social advantages as well. These include walking tours and socializing with travelers from all over the world!

Just be careful not to blindly trust online reviews. After all, they are written by unqualified individuals. This doesn't mean that their opinion is necessarily wrong, just that they're not trying to be objective. They have their own criteria, which might differ from yours. One way to determine if you share similar sets of criteria with a certain reviewer is to try to find their reviews of places where you've already stayed at. If their opinion of a place matches yours, then you can probably trust them.

Planning your summer vacation in terms of safety

Safety comes first and here's what you can do in order to stay safe.

Protect yourself from identity thieves

Unfortunately, credit cards and social security numbers do get stolen. And that's especially bad if it happens during your vacation. Among other things, that's because the thieves will find it easier to "steal" your identity then. You'll have a much harder time to check the transactions on your credit cards.

Your safety is arguably the most essential item in your summer vacation planning,
to avoid becoming an easy target for various tricksters and thieves.

The best way to prevent this is to properly prepare. Leave your social security card at home, don't carry the credit cards that you're not sure you'll need to use, and notify your bank that you'll be going on holiday.

Carry a hotel's business card with you

Make sure that you always know how to get back to your hotel on foot. If your credit cards or your paper money get stolen, you won't be able to pay a cab to drive you to the hotel. So, keep your hotel's business card with you. Even if you're lost and the address on the business card doesn't mean anything to you, you'll be able to ask the people on the street to point you in the right direction.

Research an organized travel program before signing up

If you're traveling with an organized travel program, do plenty of research before signing up. The point of this research is to make sure that the company behind the travel program is safe. Don't trust their marketing materials. Look for reviews, ask them for references, ask to see the safety records, and so on. Traveling with an organized travel program that you haven't properly checked means that you'll be gambling with your safety. So, avoid doing that at all costs!

Some more helpful tips

Hire a reliable travel agent. Doing so will make sure that everything goes smoothly and without a hitch.

Hire the locals to improve your experience. They know which places are most interesting and worth seeing.

If you're moving soon after your vacation, choose a high-quality moving company on verifiedmovers.com.

If you don't have a lot of money, you can choose a country where the United States dollar is worth more. Doing so will certainly save you some money.

To conclude

Planning your summer vacation is sometimes not easy, but don't forget that, hopefully, soon you'll be enjoying yourself somewhere on a beach, with a cool breeze blowing in your face, drinking a cocktail and having the time of your life. If you follow our guidelines, everything should be okay.

Good luck, and of course - have fun!
