With all of the different sporting events taking place in Europe this year, 2014
is shaping up to be a great year for avid sports fans. Here are some of the Top 10 sporting events taking place in
Europe (listed in chronological order). Please note that many of these are annual sporting events that take place
every year in Europe.
Six Nations Rugby Union - February &
March
This rugby tournament is taking place all over Europe in 2014. A
very useful six nations guide was released to help all travelers find the best hotel accommodations and bars near the
stadiums each rugby game is played.
Since this tournament has six nations in it, the games will be played at different
locations throughout this tournament, allowing rugby fans to travel all over Europe as they follow their favorite
team.

The Boat Race - April 6th
The annual race between Oxford and Cambridge attracts thousands of visitors each
year. You can choose any spot along the banks of the 4.2 mile stretch of river. You can also hang out on the north
bank of the river at Bishops Park and Furnivall Gardens. At these two locations you will find big screens,
entertainment and food throughout day. Best of all, there is no cover charge to watch this race!
The London Marathon - April 13th
Another completely free event to watch is the London Marathon which runs right through the heart of London. There are many vantage points to watch the
race throughout the city; allowing you to get up close to the runners to cheer them on!

The Champions League Final - May 24th
A chance to view some of the best club soccer in the world as two heavy weight
clubs square off on May 24th in Lisbon. You will be hard pressed to find a better late spring destination than
Lisbon, which makes it the perfect city getaway at this time of year.
Monaco Grand Prix - May 25th
Possibly the most glamorous sporting event in Europe, the Monaco Grand Prix
Formula One motor race runs right through the city streets, past the Grand Casino and right next to the harbor.

The Wimbledon Championships - June 23rd to July
6th
For the first time in over 50 years, Britain will have a defending champion trying

The Open Championships - July 17-20
The Irishman Rory McElroy is the favorite heading up into this tournament. Looking
to win his 3rd major in his golfing career, he will be forced to hold off an almost healthy Tiger Woods. Look for
great excitement and drama throughout the tournament.
The Turkish Grand Prix - July 21st
Formula One racing is looking to make its 8th consecutive trip to Turkey this

Tour de France - July 5th to July 27th
The 101st edition of the Tour de France begins in Britain and runs through to
France. With so many stages of the Tour de France, traveling hundreds of miles on each stage, there is sure to be a
race relatively near your location in Europe.
Ryder Cup - September 26th to 28th
The golfing competitions between the US and Britain takes place this year at
Gleneagles. All the tickets for this event have already sold out, but if you are looking for official accommodation
